Reverse Ceiling Fans

Did you know that using your ceiling fans during the winter can actually improve the heating in your home? It’s one of the easiest winterizing steps you can take!

Check the direction that the blades are spinning. For winter, they should be going clockwise.

That’s it! Running your ceiling fans in the winter will draw the cooler air to the ceiling and circulate the warmer air back to the living areas in your rooms. You will actually need to heat your home less because it’s being more evenly heated. Plus, our thermostats are often near the lower part of the room - if the warmer air is pushed down that way, it won’t tell the heater to run as often.

I usually tie the changing of the fan blades with the changing of our clocks for daylight savings time. It’s an easy trick that helps save on heating costs this winter!
