Go PICK some apples!
If you haven’t yet gone apple picking this year, there’s still hope (at least in southern WI). With the perfect fall weather we’ve had the past week, it’s easy to think about heading to your local apple orchard to taste test all of the different varieties and pick your favorites off of the trees.
Why is this better than just grabbing your usual standbys from the grocery store? Local produce! You can talk with the people who actually grew the food you’re putting in your mouth. (Or not talk to them, that’s cool too.) Your fruit isn’t trucked halfway across the country - or world - and you’re also helping to support a small local business. As Michael Scott would say, it’s a Win-Win-Win!
At our house, apples from our tree and the local orchard (Peck and Bushel - highly recommended!) go towards pies, cider, muffins, oatmeal, applesauce, crisp and usually snacks for school all month. The crows and the deer get some too. ☺️
Don’t wait any longer! Make a fall tradition to enjoy what can be grown right in your area.
