Family Traditions
What are some of your favorite traditions from childhood? Or maybe crazy stories that you tell about things you didn’t know were different than what other families did?
Family traditions root us in routine, year after year. They become a predictable and comforting practice that helps all family members feel grounded. And they don’t have to be huge holiday traditions - anything that we do to mark certain events can become a tradition.
We also have traditions that involve those outside of our family. Regardless of who is involved, creating and maintaining these repetitive milestones in life help connect us to others, give us events to look forward to, and create memories that last a lifetime.
And it’s never too late to start! It’s the trying that makes a difference.
Why am I bringing this up this week? Pi Day was this past Sunday, and it’s one that my girls look forward to every spring. We make pie dough together and enjoy quiche, apple pie, chocolate pie, pecan pie and usually chicken pot pie or shepherd’s pie all day long. When they were old enough to understand the concept of pi, it was fun to incorporate that too!
What family traditions do you have? Which ones do you look forward to outside of the big holiday celebrations?
